When Helen met Gary - Meet the Funder with Lloyds Bank Foundation

As part of the Broxtowe project, we had hoped to organise a funding fair to introduce local and national funders to the voluntary groups in Broxtowe. However, with the knowledge that many funders are undergoing a strategy review, Helen Oparinde, NCVS’s Group Support Coordinator, came up with an alternative way to achieve similar goals – an online meet-the-funder event. Here she shares her overview.

Lloyds Bank Foundation

The deadline for applications is Thursday 29 May 2025, 5pm

Lloyds Bank Foundation has opened its Racial Equity Fund for applications. Unrestricted funds of £75,000 over three years (£25,000 per year) will be available for charitable organisations that are led by and work with people experiencing economic inequity because of their race or ethnicity. The Foundation is especially eager to receive applications from small, local, and specialist organisations.

Accelerating Action: Celebrating a very special woman

Since its earliest reported version in 1909, International Women’s Day is a time to recognise and celebrate the remarkable women who have shaped our communities, championed social change, and continued to make a difference today. In 2025, we’re marking International Women’s Day by celebrating the incredible women who have shaped Nottingham’s past and are driving change in the present.

Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust: Reducing Veteran Homelessness programme

This fund is now closed

Funding of up to £300,000 is available for registered charities, registered social housing providers, and local authorities that work to reduce veteran homelessness and end rough sleeping. This new round of the programme will provide funds to further improve the capacity of services in supported housing to meet the needs of vulnerable veterans.

You can also apply for an Enhanced Award of up to an additional £200,000 if you can show that extending your project will fill a significant level of currently unmet need.

Exploring the volunteer journey vs. the customer journey

In this blog, NCVS Volunteering Development Officer, Dave Thomas, takes a sideways look at the Volunteer Journey and highlights that there are many similarities to product marketing.

In putting this blog together, I had a conversation with Amanda Chambers, NCVS Interim Deputy CEO and manager of our Communications Team. In particular, she pointed me towards the important role that volunteers play as advocates for our organisations. We know that the best way to recruit a new volunteer is by word of mouth. Who better to do this than our current and past volunteers?

LoVN extra came to Beeston

The Leaders of Volunteers Network (LoVN) is both a face-to-face and online network run by NCVS’s Volunteering Development Officer Dave Thomas, where at each meeting there is discussion about different aspects of volunteer management, as well as sharing best practice and information. As part of the Broxtowe project, Helen Oparinde, NCVS Group Support Coordinator, arranged with Dave to take LoVN extra out to Beeston on Tuesday 18 February 2025, here she shares her experience.
