Purpose of Role:
We are looking for new Board members to support our work and bring new skills, expertise and ideas for the future of our organisation. In particular, we are looking for people with expertise in one or more of: legal, financial / commercial, the Nottingham civic or community sector, education, and HR and people management.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
• Support the Chair of the Board, other trustees, the Director and the Senior Leadership Team in setting a clear vision, mission and strategic direction for the Charity and ensuring that the necessary structures are in place to deliver those.
• Alongside the other members of the Board, be responsible for the performance of the Charity.
• Support the Chair, other trustees, Director and Senior Leadership team in the implementation of strategic plans to deliver the artistic vision and organisational objectives.
• Act as guardians of the Charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible.
• Promote and work towards good governance, ensuring that this is of the highest possible standard.
• Act in the Charity’s best interests and ensure the organisation complies with its ‘Articles of Association’ and ‘Charitable objectives’, and functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable trust and any other legislation or regulations that apply to it.
• As the Charity is a National Portfolio Organisation, support in communications and reviews with Arts Council England, where necessary.
• Act as an advocate and ambassador for Nottingham Contemporary via networking and attendance at events, representing the organisation to raise its profile.
• Serve for an initial term of four years.
Time Commitment
We would normally expect trustees to prepare for and take part in 4–5 Board meetings per year and to help develop key pieces of work. Overall, this will require about 50 hours over a year. Trustees will also be invited to voluntarily attend exhibition openings and other fundraising, networking and promotional functions.
