Purpose of Role:
This role is to support the Treasurer of the Helpful Bureau in:
· Managing the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practices.
· Ensuring proper records are kept and effective financial procedures are in place.
· Monitoring and reporting on the financial health of the organisation.
· Assisting with the production of necessary financial reports, returns, accounts and audits.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
You will sit on the Board of Trustees who are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.
They meet monthly.
Your role includes supporting and helping with:
· Liaison with relevant staff, committee members and volunteers to ensure the financial viability of the organisation.
· Making fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.
· Regularly reporting the financial position at committee meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance, etc).
· The production of an annual budget
· Ensuring proper records are kept and effective financial procedures and controls are in place, ie:
o Cheque signatories
o Purchasing limits
o Purchasing systems
o Petty cash/ float
o Salary payments
o Pensions
o PAYE and NI payments
o Others as appropriate
· Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.
· Appointing and liaising with auditors/an independent examiner.
· Ensure bookkeeping is kept up-to-date.
The time commitment is approximately 4-6 hours per month, inlcuding the monthly Trustee meeting.
Much of this role is home-based, but Trustee meetings are normally held at :

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Passionate about our cause.
· Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practices relevant to voluntary and community organisations.
· Good financial analysis skills.
· Ability to communicate clearly.
