Purpose of Role:
The role is to help people feeling socially isolated—whether due to losing touch with friends in Nottingham or moving here from elsewhere—to connect with others.

The events attract good-sized crowds, giving them a chance to socialise, have fun, and potentially form new friendships.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This role involves organising and hosting group events, either independently or as part of a team. You’ll create events on the Meetup app by adding details like the date, time, title, description, and photo, which are then shared with members.

At the event, your duties include welcoming attendees, introducing yourself, explaining the schedule, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. You might collaborate with others for larger events or handle simpler ones, like walks or casual meet-ups, on your own. No major setup is needed—just arrive on time, confirm any bookings, and be prepared to handle minor issues if they arise. It’s all about creating a friendly, organised experience for members.

There are a couple of events each month, and it’d be great if you could host one or two more. Events typically happen on Friday or Saturday evenings for larger groups or midweek for activities like bowling, mini golf, or casual drinks. Most events start at 7 or 8 p.m. to suit 9-to-5 schedules.

Volunteers need to attend events in person but can post them on the Meetup app from home. For this, they’ll need reliable internet, as you'll have permission to create and share events online.

This group is open to anyone within the age range, but it’s not a charity focused on vulnerable people, so no formal training is required. The role is simply about organising casual get-togethers. There’s no need for insurance, as events take place at venues that should already have insurance in place. Plus, there’s no equipment or props involved that could pose risks, and we don’t host events in public fields or similar spaces.

Unfortunately, we can’t cover expenses like travel, food, or drinks—volunteers will need to cover these themselves. However, when booking spaces at pubs or other venues for events, we always aim to do so without upfront costs. You'll get help to guide you in finding venues where attendees simply buy their own food and drinks upon arrival.

Being an organiser may help develop some hard and soft skills, but Ithe main benefits are probably more personal. The biggest reward will be the fun, as organisers get to enjoy the events with people their own age. Having organised events for over a year, I find great fulfillment seeing people enjoying themselves.

Organisers might also improve their social life and make new friends, which is why the group was started in the first place. My own social life was poor, but now I regularly meet up with people from these events. Organising can help shy or socially anxious people, as it pushes you out of your comfort zone. As an organiser, you have to interact with others, which builds social confidence. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience .

So, if you are looking to improve your social life, make new friends, or gain more confidence, this could be a great opportunity.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
This group aims to help people in their 20s and 30s improve their social lives and have fun, so no qualifications or prior experience in organising events are required—I didn’t have any when I started! If you’re interested in hosting events or meeting new people, that’s all you need.

However, I do value certain qualities: politeness, passion for organising, good organisational skills, punctuality, and reliability. Last-minute cancellations or no-shows—especially from the organiser—are unacceptable. It’s important to have a predictable schedule, ensuring you can fully commit to events without conflicts like unexpected work overtime. Dependability and enthusiasm are key to making events successful and enjoyable for everyone!

Ideally, this role will suit someone between 20 and 33 years old, as this group is aimed at that age range. However, if someone is just outside that range—like 19 or 35—and would be a great fit, that’s absolutely fine.

This role is also open to people with disabilities, though it’s important to note that many events involve some mobility. For example, we often move between venues during events, and some venues have stairs. There may also be events with louder music, which could be challenging for those with hearing issues. While we're happy to accommodate people with disabilities, these factors should be considered before getting involved.
