Purpose of Role:
Chilwell Memorial Institute was set up to commemorate local people who fought in the First World War, but it remains an active and lively community centre to this day.

You are invited to join the existing trustees to steer the organisation into the future.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Trustees are responsible for leading the charity and making decisions that will impact people's lives:

Understanding the charity's purpose and how it benefits the public

Acting in the charity's best interests, with care and diligence

Managing conflicts of interest

Complying with charity law and other applicable laws

Making sure the charity complies with its governing document

Making good decisions, recording them, and being able to justify them


While a trustee has some important responsibilities, there is excellent support offered from your fellow trustees and from organisations such as Nottingham CVS, the Charity Commission and others.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Trustees should have a variety of skills. Not every trustee will be an expert in alll of these, but if you have some experience in one or more of these areas, please get in touch:

Hard skills: Legal, financial, and management skills to understand complex decisions

Soft skills: The ability to work in a team, negotiate, and encourage problem-solving

Communication skills: The ability to listen, understand, and communicate clearly and objectively

Conflict resolution: The ability to identify potential conflict and build constructive relationships

Community knowledge: An understanding of the community or services the organization provides

Personal experience: A lived experience of the cause

Open-mindedness: The ability to adapt to different environments

Stakeholder management: The ability to manage relationships with stakeholders

Compliance: The ability to comply with the charity's governing document and the law

Trustees should also demonstrate values such as honesty and integrity, and be committ
