Purpose of Role:
Beeston Memory Café is a safe, friendly venue open to anyone living in the community with dementia and their accompanying carer or supporter. Café sessions include social activities and a chance to meet and get to know new people. Information is also provided on support and resources available to carers.
This role is as a Trustee, with specific financial responsibilities as Treasurer.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Specific Treasurer responsibilities:
To oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation.
Other responsibilities as one of the Trustees:
· participate actively in the management of Beeston Dementia Friends and Beeston Memory Café
· participate in the formation of future plans
· ensure all actions are legal and fall within the aims and objectives of the Constitution
· accept corporate responsibility for policy decisions and future developments
Specific to the role of Volunteer Treasurer:
· oversee the financial affairs of the organisation, ensuring they are legal and that funds are applied only for the objects defined in the constitution
· ensure that proper records are kept
· ensure the safe receipt and disbursement of funds, with appropriate controls in place
· draw up budgets and maintain financial records,
· review the charity’s financial performance, reporting regularly to the Management Committee, highlighting any concerns
· ensure that the annual accounts are independently examined and reported to the Charity Commission within the required timescale
· advise on the financial implications of new ideas or proposals
· advise on savings accounts for the holding / investing of funds temporarily not required for the day-to-day transactions
· ensure insurance cover is provided
· advise the other trustees / Management Committee on their responsibilities with regard to financial matters
The role currently requires an estimated 150-200 hours per year, to include:
· weekly online payments set up for approval by a second signatory
· book-keeping / recording of receipts and payments on an ongoing basis, with bi-monthly reporting to and attendance at the Management Committee meetings
· occasional provision of financial information for grant applications or grant monitoring
· annual review of and obtaining of insurance
· recovery of gift aid
· occasional investigation of the financial implications of proposals
· annual review of financial policies and procedures
· review of savings account rates and suitability from time to time as deemed appropriate
· preparation of annual accounts, liaison with independent examiner and annual reporting to the Charity Commission (including the Trustees’ annual return and the Annual Report)
· thank-you letters / acknowledgement of donations
· comment and / or investigation of other matters not specifically finance related, in the role of Trustee

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience of simple accounts or bookkeeping would be great. Being organised and a strong team member is important in this role.
