Purpose of Role:
We are looking to recruit friendly people with an interest in Nottingham's industrial heritage to perform a variety of visitor-facing roles within our museum. The roles vary and include the cash desk, welcoming visitors, answering questions, providing demonstrations in our galleries, or assisting in our small charity shop.
We welcome all suitable applicants as volunteers; however, we are underrepresented by ethnic minorities and volunteers in the age group 25 – 60.
Full training will be given to the new volunteers.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
During museum opening hours you will be engaging with visitors to the museum. This may include welcoming visitors, assisting at the front desk, guiding visitors around the museum, giving visitors details about the artifacts, (history, manufacture, purpose, social impact, etc.), administration, assisting with museum opening and closing processes.
We are open to the public at weekends, Thursdays and bank holidays and for occasional school and private visits on other days.
Weekend and Thursday shifts 10:30–13:45 & 13:30–16:15
Tuesday and Thursday 10:00-16:00 for maintenance & cleaning.
Live steaming and engine running, takes place on the last Sunday of every month and occasionally for special events.
No minimum hours, but volunteers expected to attend for one shift per month.

Learn about Nottingham’s varied industrial heritage and history. We have artifacts and working examples representing local industries involved in clock making, printing, telephony, textile and lace manufacture, car, motorcycle and bicycle manufacture. In addition, carpentry and blacksmith workshops, tractors and a large collection of working steam, petrol and diesel engines, including an 1856 beam engine. Opportunity to learn to operate historical machinery. Meet visitors from the local area, UK and other countries.
Applicants should be over 18 and available to attend the museum on weekends and Bank Holidays. We are able to accommodate people under 18 if community volunteering is mandatory for their academic course or other activity, e.g. College or Duke of Edinburgh award.
The Museum is located within the courtyard in Wollaton Park. Free parking permit available whilst volunteering.
We are a registered charity with no salaried staff and operate under licence from Nottingham City Council.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
No special experience is required, but an interest in Nottingham’s industrial history, a willingness to engage with visitors, a good standard of spoken English, polite and respectably presented, enthusiastic and professional manner.
