Purpose of Role:
This important, exciting and flexible role is to join the passionate team of volunteers to build the Sherwood Exchange into a hub for the vibrant community of Sherwood.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Sherwood Exchange is an Unincorporated group of volunteers who wish have set up and now run an accessible food and household goods exchange service within Sherwood. The exchange encourages the donation by individuals and organisations of surplus items for the benefit of all, particularly people facing or at risk of experiencing financial hardship.
We are looking for a secretary for our committee to work with the co-chairs, treasurer and other committee members to ensure the notes of Sherwood Exchange monthly meetings are typed up and any other administration duties are undertaken in support of the executive chair.
This in addition to ensuring resources are managed well and applied in the best way possible to help achieve the organisation’s aims and run in a way that it will continue to satisfy the ‘community interest test’. This means any decision, supportor advice should always consider the interests of the community Sherwood Exchange is intended to serve.
You will be able to help organise and promote the groups range of activities. In particular the Saturday afternoon sessions at the Place in Sherwood.
Encourage and inspire others to engage with activities
Attend regular committee meetings and take and circulate notes
What's in it for you
Play a crucial role in the Sherwood community, making new friends and building connections
You'll be part of a pioneering organisation, committed to combatting poverty in your local area and beyond
Gain valuable organisational, administrative and people skills
You may also be ‘paid back’ in time, which other people volunteer into the time bank if you choose to do so. ‘Time’ volunteered into the time bank can be anything from time from another person who volunteers to undertake tasks such as gardening or domestic cleaning. Or time to bake a cake or undertake minor repairs on items you might require fixing.
If you’re interested in helping others and the environment and you fulfil the skills and qualification requirements, please get in touch.
Two recent references are required for this post. Availability is also required to attend an informal interview meeting either in person, over the phone or via Microsoft Teams, Skype or Zoom.
We are not currently in a position to meet volunteer expenses, but we hope to be able to do so in the near future.
