Volunteer Coordinator for The Sherwood Exchange
OFFERED BY:
The Sherwood ExchangeLocation(s): Sherwood
Address where volunteering takes place: The Place Melrose Street Nottingham NG5 2JPHow many places are on offer? 1 initially
Purpose of Role:
Your leadership skills will be put to the test and those skills developed as you join a dedicated team of volunteers who are setting up and running a accessible food and household good exchange service within Sherwood. The exchange will encourage the donation by individuals and organisations of surplus items for the benefit of all, particularly people facing or at risk of experiencing financial hardship.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Sherwood Exchange encourages residents to donate and swap surplus items such as food and clothing and will open on a Saturday afternoon from February 2024 in the Place Activity Centre in Sherwood.
You are invvited to help coordinate volunteers to do weekly shifts at the exchange. Support with recruiting and training volunteers will also be required. This role would suit somebody who is good at coordinating people, organising, and arranging events and able to problem solve and cover shifts when volunteer numbers are low. It will also involve around three hours per week and attendance at committee meetings which are held at least once a month.
Applicants over 18 may also be ‘paid back’ in time, which other people volunteer into the time bank if you choose to do so. ‘Time’ volunteered into the time bank can be anything from time from another person who volunteers to undertake tasks such as gardening or domestic cleaning. Or time to bake a cake or undertake minor repairs on items you might require fixing. For more information about the timebank, please visit the NG Skills Bank page on the Time Banking UK website.
If you’re interested in helping others and the environment and you fulfil the following requirements, please get in touch. Please note that this role is only open to people aged over 18 due to insurance purposes.
Two recent references are required for this post and a willingness to have a Disclosure and Baring Services criminal record check. Availability is also required to attend an informal interview meeting either in person, over the phone or via Microsoft Teams, Skype or Zoom.
We are not currently in a position to meet volunteer expenses, but we hope to be able to do so in the near future.
