Purpose of Role:
This is a Meet & Greet role and requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to be a team player and a warm and friendly personality. This will be a busy environment so you’ll need to be comfortable using your initiative and supporting our staff to welcome people into the library.

We want our Central Library Volunteers to feel an integral part of our team and to be on-site regularly to showcase our newest library. This role requires a weekly commitment. Full training will be provided.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Would you like to join our core team of Central Library volunteers? We are looking for friendly and outgoing people who are advocates for libraries and enjoy talking to people. You will be welcoming customers into a new city centre attraction. This role requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to be a team player, and a warm and friendly personality. This will be a busy environment so you’ll need to be comfortable using your own initiative support staff in welcoming people into the library.

We want our Central Library Volunteers to feel an integral part of our team, and to be on-site on a regular basis to showcase our library. This role requires a regular commitment each week. Full training will be provided.

What you will be doing

- Welcoming members of the public into the library
- Helping customers to find the various areas of the library, such as the children's library, or business centre
- Reporting any suspicious behaviour to staff
- Answering general enquiries about library facilities
- Directing customers to library staff when appropriate
- Liaising with library staff
- Positively promoting Nottingham City Council and the library service
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A warm, welcoming and friendly attitude
- Excellent and proven customer service skills
- A non-judgmental and inclusive approach
- Ability to communicate with people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds
- Familiarity with all floors and library facilities. Full training will be provided.
- Organised, professional and reliable
- Able to carry out tasks using own initiative along with being a team player
- Able to commit to regular attendance so that you can build a relationship with library staff
- Being an advocate for Nottingham City Council and the library service
- An understanding and appreciation of the role libraries play in building positive and resilient communities
- Willingness to wear a volunteer gillet whilst on-site
- Able to commit to 4 hours per week.
