Purpose of Role:
You will be supporting selected children at a Bulwell Primary School. You will meet with children on a 1-1 basis who are finding reading difficult. Literacy Volunteers help children in Primary Schools to enjoy reading and communicating and encourage Reading For Pleasure.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Literacy Volunteers help children to enjoy reading and communicating. This role is specifically for primary schools in Bulwell with selected children who are finding these life skills difficult. Volunteers do not teach. They talk, play games and develop reading skills with children on a one-to-one basis in order to boost their confidence and improve their self esteem. Volunteers are required to help weekly, for one morning or afternoon for 2/3 hours, depending on the needs of each school. We require volunteers who can contribute for at least a year in order to go through the training, get started and build up a relationship with the children.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Able to commit to the role; to like children, enjoy reading, be patient, flexible and reliable, fluent in English speaking and reading and be aged 18-80yrs
