Purpose of Role:
The Volunteer Van Delivery Driver for FareShare Midlands is responsible for delivering food and essential items to various locations within the Midlands area. The role requires a full UK driving license, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The volunteer will receive training and support from FareShare Midlands, including health and safety, food handling, and customer service training. The role requires a regular commitment of at least one day per week for a minimum of three months. The successful candidate will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses incurred while carrying out volunteer duties.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Volunteer Van Delivery Driver is responsible for delivering food and other essential items to various locations within the Midlands area on behalf of FareShare Midlands. The successful candidate will ensure that all deliveries are completed safely, accurately, and within the allocated time frame.

Key Responsibilities:

Collect and deliver food and other essential items to various locations within the Midlands area.
Load and unload the van in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that all items are securely packed and correctly labeled.
Check and maintain the condition of the vehicle regularly, including cleaning and basic maintenance.
Ensure that all necessary documentation is completed accurately, including delivery notes and vehicle checklists.
Adhere to health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards, including the proper handling and storage of perishable items.
Communicate effectively with the Warehouse Manager and other members of the team regarding delivery schedules, delays, and other relevant information.
Provide excellent customer service to FareShare Midlands' clients and partners, including demonstrating a friendly and professional demeanor.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

A full UK driving license with no more than six penalty points.
Being 21 years or older.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Desirable:

Previous experience in driving vans or similar vehicles.
Knowledge of local areas and routes.
Experience in working with food, especially perishable goods.
A friendly and approachable demeanour.

Learned in the role:

Basic vehicle maintenance and care.
Improved route planning and navigation skills.
Health and safety practices for food handling and storage.
Customer service and relationship management skills.

Time Commitment:

Volunteer Van Delivery Drivers are expected to commit to a regular schedule of at least one day per week for a minimum of three months. However, schedules can be flexible depending on the volunteer's availability.

Training and Support:

Volunteer Van Delivery Drivers will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from FareShare Midlands, including health and safety, food handling and storage, and customer service training. Volunteers will also receive regular feedback and guidance from the Warehouse Manager.
