Purpose of Role:
As an IT Learning Support Volunteer in Nottingham City Libraries, you will support our customers to learn essential digital skills. In doing so you will have an important role in tackling loneliness and social isolation and help improve health and well-being and employment prospects for our citizens.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We want volunteers with a range of IT knowledge and expertise. You do not need to be IT proficient in everything, what you specifically do will depend in part on your own skills. However, as a minimum, you do need to have good basic IT skills and be confident that you can pass on that knowledge in an easy-to-understand, friendly and engaging manner.

We currently recruiting 30 IT volunteers to support customers at all our Libraries, including the new Central Library.

-Deliver basic IT support through one-to-one drop-in sessions and/or through the delivery of specific learning courses/events to small groups
-Signup and support learners to use approved platforms such as Learn My Way and Make It Click
-Assist and support learners in the use of computer basics, general IT inquiries, and use of Library self-service resources
-Help customers understand and use library computers and their own devices more confidently and effectively
-Collect evaluation information from learners
-Assist customers to find information and signpost customers to additional services
-Any other agreed associated tasks from time to time
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The skills you need

-Enjoy helping people learn
-A general basic understanding of Windows computers, Android and/or Apple devices
-Confident using the Internet (e.g. Edge, Chrome and Safari browsers), popular Email providers (e.g. Outlook, Gmail), basic Microsoft applications (e.g. Word) and basic computer functions such as saving and printing
-Some experience and confidence in using any of the following would be useful but not essential: Social media, messaging/video apps, Cloud storage, online transactions, Android/Apple products
-Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public – inclusive of all ages, races, cultures, and abilities
-Polite, reliable, confident, and responsible individual with enthusiasm and effective interpersonal skills
-Commitment to equal opportunities and diversity
-Ability to pass a basic assessment test
-Able to commit to 4 hours per month for about 6 months
