Purpose of Role:
Volunteers foster a love of books through reading, stories and games and activities. Volunteers work one to one, once a week with primary school children to improve their reading skills. They support teachers in creating a nurturing literacy-rich environment. Volunteers make a lasting difference in a child's educational journey. Literacy Volunteers are a dedicated team who help unlock the door to a brighter future through the power of reading.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Literacy Volunteers help children to foster a love of books through reading, engaging stories and activities. They volunteer in local primary schools with selected children who are finding these life skills difficult. Volunteers do not teach. They talk, play games and help develop reading skills with children on a one-to-one basis in order to boost their confidence and improve their self-esteem. Volunteers are required to help weekly, for one morning or afternoon for 2/3 hours, depending on the needs of each school. We require volunteers who can contribute for at least a year in order to go through the training, get started and build up a relationship with the children.

Currently, we have opportunities all over Nottingham City and County, but we are particularly looking for volunteers to help in Eastwood, Chilwell, Mansfield, Ashfield, Worksop and Retford.

The office is closed on Fridays and school holidays. Please contact us by email or by phone and leave a message and a member of the team will get back to you.
