Purpose of Role:
Could you help local children with their homework in our libraries? We are currently seeking a few volunteers for our after-school Homework sessions at three of our community libraries.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Could you help local children with their homework in our libraries? We are currently seeking two volunteers for our after-school Homework session at Hyson Green, Radford-Lenton and Dales libraries. .
Pupils aged 8-18 will need help with Maths, English, Science, or other project work. We have free resources to use in the library for doing homework including books, stationery, calculators, protractors, computers, online reference books, and printing.
Make a positive contribution to a young person’s education and confidence by supporting our after-school activities using library resources (books, computers, games, etc) in our safe, welcoming spaces.
After-school activities include homework help for general knowledge, reading, writing, maths, science, and games clubs.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
What you will be doing
Help pupils to develop their reading and literacy skills, support and encourage them with their homework
Listen to children read and encourage them to engage with a wide variety of reading materials.
Support them to find interest reading materials in the library
Encourage participation in games which can help improve memory, strategic thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
Set up the after school sessions with appropriate materials (provided by the library) and clear away/tidy up at the end
The skills you need
A welcoming, encouraging, non-judgemental person with good spoken and written English
A genuine interest in supporting young people from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and situations
An ability to be flexible, patient and to use your own initiative whilst engaging and communicating with young people.
Someone who will help promote the value of libraries and reading
The ability to use and understand IT and technology as a tool to enhance learning and education
Regular commitment to at least one term-time session per month at your chosen library between the hours of 3.30-5.30pm.
