Purpose of Role:
We are looking for volunteers who can make a difference to people with a learning disability. Volunteers will support people on a Friday evening 6pm-9pm to participate in a range of in-house activities at our L8s Club.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
L8’s is a social club run by Nottingham Mencap. It is open to all adults with a diagnosed learning disability aged 18 and upwards. Its purpose is to provide a safe environment for adults in which they can socialise with one another on Friday evenings.
The club will have a games group, disco, regular movies, pool, darts as well as a tea and coffee bar serving drinks and snacks. Here adults can relax, get to know one another and have fun.
We are looking for voluntary workers willing to give a few hours of their time each week and help support our Senior staff.
Successful applicants will be friendly and outgoing, patient, a good listener, understanding of the needs of others and willing to work with those who can sometimes display challenging behaviours.
Duties will include helping to set up different activities, keeping a record of attendance, helping to serve at the coffee bar and building positive relationships with service users. You will work closely with the Senior staff on duty to ensure the club runs smoothly and be aware and able to communicate any potential safeguarding issues.
We are particularly keen to hear from placement students or anyone who has previous experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities. However this is not essential as enthusiasm and a friendly approach are the most important qualities.
Days/Times Required: Minimum of one Friday evening each month 6pm - 9pm
