Purpose of Role:
Under charity law, trustees have the ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of NCVS and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been set up. The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation's aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. Trustees have a number of statutory duties for which they are responsible.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Our Board of Trustees work in a voluntary capacity, to help us meet the exciting challenges ahead. How do we help the voluntary sector cope with reduced public sector spending? How do we support the voluntary sector to articulate its views?
The city cannot function without strong charities and community organisations. NCVS has been supporting these organisations to adapt to changing environments for 145 years.
We offer voluntary groups training, consultancy and information. We work in partnership with other infrastructure bodies to help shape city priorities so that we can all work together to improve Nottingham’s communities.
And we lobby on behalf of the sector with statutory bodies such as the City Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group as well as nationally.
As a trustee, you will help form policy, shape the direction of the organisation and have responsibility for ensuring the company fulfils its objectives and legal obligations.
The NCVS trustees meet bi-monthly. From May 2024, meetings will usually take place on the last Wednesday of the month from 4pm to 6pm.
There are other ad hoc requests for trustee time e.g. trustees are sometimes called upon to help with an HR issue such as selection interviews, grievance or disciplinary appeals or job evaluation panels. Trustees are always invited to NCVS’s annual voluntary sector event.
You will be supported by the Chief Executive Officer who will ensure that all members of the Board receive appropriate induction on their appointment and that they continue to receive appropriate advice, information and training (both individual and collective).
You will have the opportunity to shape the strategic direction, vision and values of Nottingham’s most experienced support and development organisation. You will influence how the sector is supported to create dynamic change for Nottingham’s citizens.
