Purpose of Role:
Volunteers will assist Family Mentors to deliver the SSBC Family Mentor programme across Bulwell. Volunteers will be supporting families to increase their confidence and ability in group activities such as Active Play, Cook and Play, Story and Rhyme-Time, Stay and Play.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
• Support with the smooth running of group sessions
• Welcoming families on arrival
• Helping parents complete consent forms
• Supporting children’s play activities
• Becoming a ‘Family Buddy’ – Supporting parents to attend sessions
• Attending community events to showcase SSBC
• Additional activities as role develops

Volunteer’s travel costs will be covered/reimbursed when traveling to and from activities for SSBC in Bulwell

Time Commitment:
Volunteers will be asked to complete a minimum of 3 hours a week volunteering. Monday-Friday between 9am-4pm. As this role will be developing relationships with our families it is expected a minimum of 6 months commitment is needed.

Training:
Training will be provided to all volunteers to ensure they are fully prepared for their role. Volunteers will be required to attend induction training sessions.
- Induction Training includes Introductions to the Toy Library Bulwell Nottingham and SSBC programme, Safeguarding, Health & Safety and completing expenses forms.
- Additional Training – First Aid, Food Hygiene and Early Years Child Development.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Volunteer Family Mentors will show a commitment to:

• Improving outcomes for children.
• Working in a non-judgmental and inclusive way with all members of the community.
• Be reliable.
• Complete training as required and make use of skills gained.
• Attend catch up meetings required with volunteer coordinator.
• Ensuring the safeguarding of children.
• Show commitment to supporting group sessions.

Skills/Experience:
Commitment and enthusiasm for the aims of the Small Steps Big Changes- Caring Attitude- Good Communication Skills - A non-judgmental approach- Keen to learn new skills and contribute ideas
