Purpose of Role:
Join us in our Urban Nature ‘secret gardens’ looking after 10 unique plots for their wildlife value. Our plots, based on St Ann’s Allotments are managed completely by volunteers for their wildlife value and as a space for a diverse audience to experience nature in the City. Get involved with our sociable Saturday sessions, for a mix of practical outdoors activities looking after ponds, wildflowers and woodlands in the most urban setting.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Join us in our Urban Nature ‘secret gardens’ looking after 10 unique plots for their wildlife value. Our plots, based on St Ann’s Allotments are managed completely by volunteers for their wildlife value and as a space for a diverse audience to experience nature in the City.
With a mix of ponds, wildflower meadows and woodland, our Urban Nature plots need to be seen to be believed!
The friendly, practical sessions are suitable for all skills levels. We will tell you all you need to know, and you will be within a group of other volunteers of all ages and interests.
Sessions typically include a mix of the following (depending on the season)
- Tree pruning and felling
- bramble clearance
- wildflower meadow management
- path and step construction/maintenance
- coppicing
- pond maintenance
- access maintenance
- sign painting
- creation of habitat piles, bug hotels and nest boxes
- hedgecutting
and everything and anything associated with wildlife!
These sessions are friendly and social and fun and you are welcome to join us as little or as often as you are able.
Our Urban Nature sessions are on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month (10am – 2pm). Get in touch to find our more about our volunteering on other days too.

None! We have a mix of tasks suitable for all levels and excellent for learning and developing your practical skills
You just need to be comfortable with practical tasks, enjoy being outdoors, and have an interest in gardening and/or nature.
