Purpose of Role:
MH:2K enables young people to become volunteers and train to become Citizen Researchers to engage and hold conversations with their peers around Mental Health to raise awareness and to hear the voices of young people.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We are currently looking for a diverse group of young people aged 14-25 who live in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to join MH:2K which empowers young people to:
Identify the mental health issues that they see as most important.
Engage their peers in discussing and exploring these topics.
Work with key local decision-makers to make recommendations for change.
MH:2K is delivered by Leaders Unlocked in association with the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Groups, Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council. The project is an integral part of the ongoing work to improve children’s emotional and mental health in the region.
We are looking for participants aged 14-25 years who are currently living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Anyone from this age group who is living in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire can apply. In total, we are seeking to recruit up to 24 young people.
We are looking for young people who are team players and willing to get involved with all the events and activities that are part of MH:2K (see the next page for more information on what’s involved).
We are very keen to ensure that the team is made up of a diverse group of young people who broadly reflect the make-up of the local population in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, including those who may have personal experience of mental health – either themselves or through family and friends.
What will I have to do?
Between September 2021 and June 2022, members of the MH:2K team will get involved in a number of activities including:
• Take part in ‘Design Days’ for Peer Engagement. You will participate in five MH:2K Design Days; where you will get involved in co-design sessions where you will participate and develop relevant knowledge and skills to prepare for peer engagement. You will also work on developing and designing peer engagement methods.
• Become a Citizen Researcher to deliver peer research: You will act as a ‘Citizen Researcher’, helping to run peer engagement to gather views from other young people in the family and friend’s network. You will work with experts to explore and discuss ideas around the new website. As Citizen Researchers you will help facilitate peer engagement exercises to engage with at least 400 young people from across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
• Wider involvement: As Citizen Researcher’s we will provide the opportunity for you to take part in stakeholder meetings for the project.
• Take part in a Results Day to develop recommendations for change: MH:2K members will come back together to work with experts to discuss and analyse the information gathered from young people through peer engagement and develop realistic recommendations for change to be put forward to local decision-makers.
