Purpose of Role:
Could you spare a little time each week to offer a listening ear and a friendly conversation to someone going through one of life’s toughest journeys? This volunteer role is all about building meaningful, supportive connections—whether by phone, online, or in person—and offering comfort, encouragement, and companionship.
You’ll receive full training, ongoing support, and become part of a compassionate volunteer community. It’s a chance to make a real difference, grow your skills, and be there when someone needs it most.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
As a Macmillan Beyond Diagnosis Emotional Support Volunteer, you’ll provide emotional support to people affected by cancer. Your role isn’t about creating dependency but rather offering a listening ear, encouragement, and companionship during a difficult time.
Location: Nottingham & Nottinghamshire

What You'll Be Doing
• Offering emotional support by listening and chatting with people affected by cancer.
• Helping to reduce isolation and build confidence.
• Encouraging social connections with family, friends, and the wider community.
• Supporting mental and physical well-being.
• Engaging via phone, online (Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp), or in-person visits.
• Volunteering around 1-2 hours per week for about 3-6 months (or more if you’d like!).
If you’re open to offering additional practical support, like accompanying someone to appointments or assisting with small tasks, that’s a bonus—but not a requirement!

No formal qualifications needed—just a caring nature and a willingness to help. Key qualities include:
