Runspire Nottingham’s new youth initiative combines fitness, music, and fun to inspire young people.
Mark your calendars for an exciting new event in Nottingham! On Saturday 18 January 2025, Runspire Nottingham will launch Run to the Beat, a youth-focused initiative that blends running, music, and community spirit to create an unforgettable experience for young people. To kick off the event, Paralympic gold medallist Richard Whitehead MBE will take centre stage, inspiring participants with his incredible achievements and infectious energy. Richard Whitehead also has a Foundation that supports disabled people's ambitions through sport.
What is Run to the Beat?
Run to the Beat encompasses much more than just running. It’s a vibrant, supportive space for young people to:
- Get active.
- Build connections.
- Boost confidence.
- Most importantly—have fun!
With themed runs, energising music, and a focus on teamwork, the event promises a fresh and exciting approach to fitness.
Runspire Nottingham’s founder, Paul Hopkins, shared his excitement about the launch:
We believe in the power of community and are thrilled to have Richard Whitehead MBE, a true inspiration, to launch this exciting new series.
This initiative is part of the next phase of the national Green Social Prescribing project, locally led by GreenSpace. The project focuses on gathering strong evidence of how green social prescribing can improve mental well-being, particularly for specific groups. Run to the Beat is just one of the exciting activities organised by Runspire as part of the GreenSpace extension.

Why now?
Young people are facing growing challenges to their mental and physical wellbeing, with one in four requiring mental health support yet struggling to access services. Recognising this, Run to the Beat offers a proactive, positive outlet.
By combining exercise, music, and community engagement, the initiative not only promotes physical health but also:
- Boosts mood.
- Reduces stress.
- Encourages self-expression and resilience.
It’s fitness with a purpose—showing young people that staying active can be as fun as it is beneficial.
