Social Enterprise Accelerator takes off

Chris Hill, NCVS  Social Enterprise Development Coordinator, shares his views on the first two Social Enterprise Accelerator workshops.

The Social Enterprise Accelerator (SEA) programme delivered its first two workshops on Tuesday 2 and Thursday 11 July 2024: An Introduction to Social Enterprise and Legal Structures and Governance for Social Enterprise.

The attendees, new to Social Enterprise, were able to learn about what a social enterprise looks like, the options on how they operate, and opportunities to turn an idea into a trading social enterprise. They also had the opportunity to look at the different legal structure options available to them and what good governance looks like.

An important aspect of these sessions is that social entrepreneurs and key staff in VCS organisations can share with participants their ambitions and ideas for new social enterprises, as well as the challenges of putting in place an appropriate legal structure.

It was great to hear about these ideas and also ensure that they have the information, knowledge, and guidance to take the next step in turning their ideas into a social enterprise. There are often many questions participants have about social enterprises and the various legal structure options available to them. Many have then taken up the opportunity for 121 support.
