More than 15 charities that support homeless people across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have joined forces to launch Street Support Nottingham - an exciting new initiative that connects people and organisations locally to better tackle homelessness.
The new web-based service has been set up by members of the Nottingham Homelessness Voluntary Sector Forum and is run by the Street Support Network. Funding for the project was initially provided by the National Lottery Community Fund, with The Boots Charitable Trust agreeing to sponsor the site for an entire year.
The Street Support Nottingham website provides a one-stop-shop to find help or give support to homeless people in the city and county. Those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless can easily access the website to find all the services they might need in one place, from information about local services providing accommodation and hot meals, to local mental health support and legal advice. Whether provided by charities, churches or local councils, the services will appear on Street Support Nottingham. The website also provides links for members of the public to donate items such as clothes, food or money, as well as information about how local businesses can get involved and show their support.
The scheme has the full support of Nottingham City Council. Andrew Errington, Nottingham City's Director of Community Protection, said, “The site is comprehensive and easy to use, it will be an asset to helping those sleeping rough and will be a useful tool for agencies involved in supporting those facing homelessness.”
The scheme is also supported by the city and county libraries. Members of the public who want to find out how to support local homelessness charities will be able to find out about the initiative from library staff and pick up one of the handy-sized Street Support Nottingham business cards, which provide all the details needed to access the site.
