Local charity Himmah, in partnership with FareShare, has launched a membership scheme to help tackle food poverty in Nottingham.
The Nottingham People's Pantry is a food membership and support project for low-income households who are struggling to afford groceries. Participants in the scheme have a choice of:
- Tier 1 - paying £10 for up to 15kg of food
- Tier 2 - paying £20 for up to 30kg of food
If they choose not to order one week, they do not have to pay. This gives them access to a variety of different items of food, no less than 30 items up to 15kg, often making a saving of around £30.
Membership eligibility
In order to be eligible for this service, each household must be in receipt of government benefits (Universal Credit, Job Seekers Allowance) or working tax credits, proof will be required. Only one membership is allowed per household. A household cannot become a member if they are already receiving food parcels from another service.
