Back in May, we shared on our social media channels and e-bulletin the amazing news that Pulp Friction, a local Community Interest Company (CIC), had won a very prestigious award. Here, David Saunders, NCVS Group Development Officer, shares more about the group and their journey together to update their charity status.
The Pulp Friction Smoothie Bar CIC, established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2011, supports adults with learning disabilities or autism. It helps them develop social, independence, and work readiness skills through tailored individual development programs. These programs are designed to reflect each person's unique hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Beneficiaries gain valuable experience that improves both their employment prospects and their overall quality of life. Projects include a community café in Bestwood Park, the canteen at the Joint Nottinghamshire Police and Fire and Rescue Headquarters at Sherwood Lodge, Smoothie Bikes available for hire at community events, and The Atmosphere Choir, based in Beeston.
This year, Pulp Friction brought their Growing Skills Garden to the world-famous Chelsea Flower Show for the first time, winning the highly coveted People’s Choice Award!
Pulp Friction directors approached David, our Group Development Officer, seeking to explore the viability of converting to charity status, and David began providing support on behalf of NCVS towards the end of January 2024.
The Charity Commission has now advised that they are satisfied that Pulp Friction is a charity and therefore must register as such. The conversion to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) came into effect on Friday 2 August 2024.
