Although the law has little to say about volunteers and volunteering, what it does say is important. This online training will help you develop an understanding of some of the legal requirements that relate to your volunteering programme.
Cost: £20 per participant

Who is this training for?

If you’re a paid member of staff or volunteer who's new to working with volunteers, or a more experienced leader looking to improve your understanding of volunteers and the law, this training is for you. It’s also suitable for anyone with a general interest in this topic.

What will I learn from this training?

This training introduces you to a lot of topics that would benefit from further reading and includes important legal cases that relate to volunteering.

You’ll discover that the law often has less to say about volunteers and volunteering than might be expected, and your own commitment to good practice in volunteer leadership will often be stronger than your legal commitments.

This training will explore:

  • The definition of a volunteer
  • Health and safety, and risk
  • Insurance
  • Data protection
  • Copyright
  • Money and benefits
  • Safeguarding
  • DBS disclosures
  • Who’s allowed to volunteer
  • Volunteers and employees
  • Contracts
  • Case studies and employment tribunals

Who will be delivering this training?

Dave Thomas, Volunteering Development Officer at Nottingham CVS, who has almost 50 years’ experience as a Leader of Volunteers.

How will this training be delivered?

This training will be delivered online via Zoom. It’ll be interactive and may use various tools and training methods, which the trainer will support you with using. To get the most out of this training, please make sure you have a stable internet connection, working camera and microphone, and a quiet space to join us from.
