So much has happened since our last e-bulletin it’s hard to know where to start.  Within that week we had the appointment of a new Prime Minister as well as the accession of a new Monarch. The nation lost its longest serving Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II whose loss will be deeply felt not least by the countless charities for whom she was a patron.   

Amongst this upheaval we are still in the throes of a deepening financial crisis, which will affect many more households having to make impossible decisions. Reliance on food banks is increasing while donations are dropping. Advice services are crashing under the weight of unprecedented levels of demand. In many places ‘warm banks’ are popping up as places for people to gather so they don’t have to use their heating during the day. Charities are facing in some cases, in excess of 400% increases in energy prices having to be paid from already dwindling reserves. 

The Government’s Mini Budget on Friday will likely announce some relief for households and small businesses (including charities) in the form of energy price caps. While households will welcome the news, the interventions are not targeted in a way to support the most financially fragile. Similar to tax cuts which will benefit those on higher earnings more than those in lower earning households. 

Initiatives are being put in place to collect information and work together during the cost of living crisis. Please continue to answer the NCVS survey  and please get involved with the opportunity to network and share information that Emma Bates has set up for frontline workers (see item below).

This is a fortnightly, short get-together, for networking and sharing around what is happening on the ground from the cost of living crisis.

This networking opportunity, for hearing and gathering what is actually unfolding on the ground/ in experience, is to help ensure organisations can all respond to the crisis as well as possible within the city.

There is no expectation of attending - it is there as an opportunity due to the fast moving situation.

It does not replace existing meetings such as the Nottingham Financial Resilience Partnership (NFRP) main meeting, or any of its sub groups. It is for more immediate front line, on the ground issues from this crisis only and listening - as relevant, any issues will be fed in to NFRP/ its sub-groups.

The dates are fortnightly on a Friday, starting 23 September 2022 up till Christmas and then it will be reviewed.

Age Friendly Nottingham (AFN) is a partnership of citizens, organisations, academics and service providers who are determined to build an age friendly future and reduce the stigma and discrimination faced as we get older.

People aged 50 and over are being encouraged to try a range of activities and make new connections in Nottingham.

Organised by Age Friendly Nottingham in collaboration with local arts and culture partners, a series of events will take place across the city from 1 – 7 October 2022

Local health and wellbeing teams and Community Champions will also attend a number of the events to offer healthy living advice and signpost people to services available within their communities.

The KFC Foundation welcomes funding applications from organisations which:

• Benefit young people aged 11-25 years old.
• Supports those in a position of economic disadvantage (including one of the following: care leavers, those experiencing homelessness, young carers, young parents, refugees, young people at risk of or with experience of the criminal justice system).
• Empower young people to fulfil their potential and build a positive future by providing spaces that allow young people to feel safe and secure, helping them to unlock talent, build life skills, provide mentoring and improve their chances to gain meaningful employment.
• Are local to a KFC restaurant
• Will demonstrate positive results from their project within 12 months of  funding being received

The deadline for your expression of interest (video and short application form) is Sunday 25 September 2022. 

This small grants programme aims to support the outreach work of churches and registered Christian charities in their work with Ukrainian and Afghan refugees, by providing grant opportunities. Registered Christian charities, and members of Churches Together In England are all welcome to apply. All applicants must be able to demonstrate a clear Christian foundation or ethos.  They do not provide small grants directly to individuals.

Through their new Reducing Barriers to Driving Grant Programme, Motability hope to help charities and organisations to improve and expand private transport options for disabled people and their families beyond the Motability Scheme. Examples of grant funding from this programme could include (but is not limited to):

• Funding to raise awareness of driving as an option and of the support and adaptations that are available.
• Grants to expand the provision of driving and familiarisation lessons, and increase the number of instructors delivering lessons with adaptations.
• Funding to organisations to help reduce the cost barriers around access to vehicles and adaptations.

The Rees Jeffries Road Fund Grants awards grants that:

• Contribute to the cost of lectures, studies and scholarship calculated to foster the improvement of design and layout of public highways and adjoining land
• Promote schemes for the provision of roadside parks and open spaces
• Encourage the improvement of existing and provision of additional public highways, bridges, tunnels, footpaths, verges, and cycleways - to secure the maximum of safety and beauty

Green social prescribing is a way of connecting people to nature-based activities and green groups, projects and schemes in their local community for support with health and wellbeing. Often this will be through a referral from a Link Worker based at a GP practice or another primary care professional.

Our scheme in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, called GreenSpace, is one of seven government Green Social Prescribing Test and Learn sites. It's all about improving people’s mental health. Green providers, social prescribers, voluntary organisations and community initiatives will help connect many more people with nature-based activities, helping everyone to feel better.

Nottingham Financial Resilience Partnership is reviewing availability of financial capability initiatives in the city - for example are you running any initiatives that are specifically focussed on improving people's skills/ knowledge/ confidence with money.

They need a brief summary of:

- What the provision is/ what it involves
- Who it is for/ any criteria
- What area of the city it operates in or if city wide.
- The names of the organisation running it.

The final report for the city will be available once produced.

The CTLP is released each year in order to give police and partners information on the key Counter Terrorism threats within the local area. The information you provide in the survey is crucial to understanding emerging areas of risk as well as gaps in knowledge. The results will feed into the new document that will drive police and partner Prevent activity for 2023. This will include how they focus training and projects they bid for. 

Prevent require returns from a broad range of professionals and community leaders across a wide variety of roles and organisations. More returns mean a richer, better informed CTLP.
