NCVS would like to introduce our two Community Engagement Coordinators who are supporting the wellbeing of local communities through 2 partnership programmes. 

Kashmeera Gorecha is helping to raise awareness of mental health services amongst particularly South Asian communities in Nottingham. Kashmeera is working side by side with community and voluntary organisations in the city to enable their members to have a say in how services can be better delivered to meet their needs.  The Integrated Care Board (ICB) as commissioner of mental health services wishes to have a better understanding of why certain groups of people do not access services in order to inform future commissioning. Kashmeera has engaged with all of the Talking Therapy (IAPT) providers and has involved them so they can understand how better to deliver services to our diverse population. Andreea Buleandra is engaging with communities in Nottingham where there is low take up of childhood vaccination and immunisations. Andreea is working alongside community leaders and groups as well as Resident Development Workers and Bestwood, Sherwood and Radford Primary Care Network (PCN), to better understand reasons for low engagement in primary health services. Andreea will deliver activities to raise awareness amongst Romanian speaking communities of health services in their local areas and build relationships to better connect PCNs with their community networks. Funding for community-led partnerships which will have a positive impact on climate change in the UK.

This funding aims to help communities across the UK to address climate change.

They are looking for projects that focus on the link between nature and climate. They want to fund projects that use nature to encourage more community-led climate action. They expect these projects to bring other important social and economic benefits. Like the creation of strong, resilient and healthy communities or the development of ‘green’ skills and jobs.

They are interested in projects that can do at least one of the following:

• Show how creating a deeper connection with nature will lead to changing people’s behaviours and greater care for the environment
• Show how by bringing nature back into the places we live and work, we can help communities to reduce or adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Up to £1.5 million over 2 to 5 years, with most projects between £300,000 and £500,000.
Development grants of £50,000 to £150,000 over 12 to 18 months.

Groups have additional time to apply for funding to address inequalities which may exacerbate gambling harms in vulnerable communities.

The Community Resilience Fund (CRF) is only open to all community-based organisations who are not currently funded by Gamble Aware.

The main aim of the CRF is to provide short-term funding to address inequalities experienced by disadvantaged communities across Great Britain, which have been exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis. The CRF aims to provide funding to enable organisations to support their communities, recognising that the current cost-of-living crisis will be exacerbating gambling harms and risk of experiencing gambling harms for many people.

Organisations can submit an application for any amount of funding up to £100,000 depending on project need and size of organisation. Please note as per the eligibility criteria, organisations should not apply for more than 50% of their previous year’s income.

Funding to develop techniques and pathways for meeting veterans’ physical and health needs in the UK.

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), on behalf of the Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) (Cabinet Office) is seeking proposals that will drive forward better veteran health outcomes, and in the future, contribute to mainstream and sustainable improved treatments for our veterans.

The UK has a strong track-record of developing cutting-edge treatments and technologies to support wounded, injured and sick former service personnel. This competition is seeking innovative proposals to build on existing successes, plug research and knowledge gaps, and develop new research that will seek to advance UK capability to support more veterans. Outputs of this competition will improve UK capability to save lives and support better health outcomes for veterans through advancing technologies, interventions and health treatments, as well as to enable better future commissioning of treatments that could be available on the National Health Service.

£300 grants available from London Hearts the leading heart charity dealing with the funding, procurement and supply of life saving defibrillators not just in London but all over the UK.

£300 grant available towards the cost in order to assist you in acquiring a defibrillator.  With every Defibrillator they supply, they provide free online CPR/defibrillator awareness training.

The devastating effects of the Covid19 crisis along with tragic events involving professional sports persons at the peak of their physical fitness has highlighted the fact that Cardiac Arrest can happen to anyone, of any age and at any time. 

The statistics are alarming - Cardiac Arrest kills over 60,000 people, of all ages, in the UK each year.  If a heart defibrillator is used within 3-5mins of a cardiac arrest, the chances of survival increases from 6% to a huge 74%.

London Hearts have launched this initiative to assist you in obtaining a new fully operational child/adult heart defibrillator.

A new funding scheme aimed at voluntary and community groups which are tirelessly helping Ukrainian people settle into the county is due to be launched later this month.

With an estimated 1,200 Ukrainian people due to arrive in  the county under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, eligible groups are due to be able to apply for funds of up to £5,000 to continue to help provide advice and support. This includes hosting special community events, providing access to translation services and language classes  and  promoting  health and well-being.

The scheme will be funded by the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme and allocated on a rolling basis.

Please note this is settling in the county (outside of city boundary). It will be provided through the county's Local Community Fund.

There’s funding available for community groups and charities in Nottingham. Sir Robert McAlpine has launched a £5,000 fund to support community projects aiming to support the local community, the people and the planet.

Grants of up to £2.500 are available for community groups and charities of all shapes and sizes.

Applications are open until 12 August

From my own involvement in this process, I am fairly confident that this is not another top-down attempt to regulate volunteering.

I was one of more than 350 people involved and Nottingham CVS was one of more than 300 organisations that attended some of the 14 workshops. I was also interviewed as part of the consultation. (I even have a namecheck on the Vision for Volunteering Website How the Vision for Volunteering was created — Vision for Volunteering)

Where did it come from?

Green social prescribing is a way of connecting people to nature-based activities and green groups, projects and schemes in their local community for support with health and wellbeing. Often this will be through a referral from a Link Worker based at a GP practice or another primary care professional.

Our scheme in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, called GreenSpace, is one of seven government Green Social Prescribing Test and Learn sites. It's all about improving people’s mental health. Green providers, social prescribers, voluntary organisations and community initiatives will help connect many more people with nature-based activities, helping everyone to feel better.

The Pride march will leave from outside Marks and Spencer on the corner of Lister Gate and Castle Gate at 11am. This study started in 2010. A lot has happened since the last survey in 2019. So whether your organisation or group is big or small, flourishing or struggling - or just carrying on more or less as normal - they need to hear from you. It's interesting and only takes about 10 minutes to do.

Charities against Hate was set up in 2020 to try to tackle online hate. Since then, they have been working to put pressure on social media platforms and provide support to the charity sector. They are asking for responses to this short survey to help shape the support they provide to the sector in the future

The annual State of Caring survey from Carers UK is the UK’s most comprehensive research into the lives and experience of carers. They want to understand carers’ priorities for the future and what support they need to help recover from the pandemic, and to create a positive legacy for the future. They will use the evidence to continue to campaign for carers to get better support. They know that their evidence has helped shape Government policy and has helped commissioners and service delivery organisations look at practice. 

Please note that this survey is only for unpaid carers (or former unpaid carers) who are looking after a disabled, older or seriously ill relative or friend.

Do you want to have your say on how up to £738 million of dormant assets funding is spent in England? This Scheme enables responsible businesses to voluntarily channel funds from dormant financial assets to good causes, while ensuring owners’ rights are protected.

The public consultation offers an important opportunity to share your views on broad social and/or environmental purposes for dormant assets funding in England. It includes options on four causes - youth, financial inclusion, social investment, and community wealth funds, and provides the opportunity to suggest other social and environmental causes. 

The consultation follows the Government's commitment to expand the Dormant Assets Scheme and the Dormant Assets Act 2022 securing Royal Assent in February, potentially unlocking a further £880 million for good causes across the UK over the coming years, of which £738 million will be made available for England.

The consultation closes at 11.45pm Sunday 9 October 2022.

With childcare in England in crisis (the average cost of a full-time nursery place is £273 a week - which is almost half the average wage!) Nottingham Women's centre are working with Nottingham City Council to try and make the situation better in Nottingham as this disproportionately affects women.

If you, or any woman you know, has experience of accessing childcare in Nottingham, they want to hear from you. They are currently conducting a survey and focus groups to ensure that the voices of local women are front and centre of their campaigning work.

Healthwatch Nottingham & Nottinghamshire is asking people to take part in this survey to gather the experiences of people who receive home care and get support with food preparation and/or eating and drinking. This information will help them understand how care agencies can improve the care that is paid for by The Council.

When they share the report, it will not identify you in any way.
